Cholera Outbreak>>> Borno confirms 559 cases, 43 deaths The Borno government, has confirmed 559 cholera cases in the state, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Juliana Bitrus, informed newsmen in Maiduguri on Tuesday. Bitrus said 43 deaths have also been recorded out of 559 suspected cases. She said the disease was recorded in Gwoza, Kaga, Hawul, Magumeri, Dambao, Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere Local Government Areas of the state. Bitrus said 354 cases were recorded in Gwoza, with 18 deaths, while Hawul recorded 126 cases with 11 deaths. “Others are Kaga with 22 cases, two deaths, Magumeri, six cases, one death, Damboa, 39 cases, 10 deaths, Jere eight cases, one death while Maiduguri has four cases, no death,” she said. The commissioner said that the state did not recorded any outbreak of the disease in 2019 and 2020. She said that government had constituted Rapid Response Teams for disease surveillance and control in the affected LGAs to ensure timely response on all cases.

  The federal government has partnered with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to provide jobs for 20,000 skilled young Nigerian graduates tagged Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme. Applications will open for the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme, which aims to place 20,000 skilled young Nigerian graduates (under the age of 30) into jobs in private and public sector organizations around the country. (Open to applicants from every part of Nigeria!) The jobs will last for 12 months, will be fully-paid, and will seek to help prepare qualifying recent graduates for their future careers and work environments. Goals include improving employability, building useful career and leadership skills in young graduates, and connecting employers and potential employees.   Katsina Bans Inter-State Transport Of Cattle The Katsina State Government on Tuesday said it has banned the transportation of cattle from the state to any other state in Nigeria. This was contained in a statement signed by state government spokesperson, Abdu Labaran. The ban is part of efforts to improve security in the state and is backed by the Security Challenges (Containment) Order signed into law by Governor Aminu Bello Masari. Igboho's Aids Get Freedom From DSS The State Security Service (SSS) has released eight out of the detained 12 associates of the Yoruba nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho). According to their lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the eight were released “this afternoon.” He said the detainees’ legal team, which he heads was working to get the remaining four out by Tuesday. Those released appeared at a press conference on Monday afternoon, they are: Abideen Shittu, Abdullateef Onaolapo, Ayobami Donald, Olakunle Oluwapelumi, Dikeola Ademola, Bamidele Sunday, Raji Kazeem, and Taiwo Tajudeen. Those still in DSS custody are Tajudeen Irinloye, Uthman Adelabu, Amudat Babatunde, and Jamiu Oyetunji.   Oyo Amotekun Arrests Four Fulani Kidnappers Along Iseyin-Oyo Road The Southwest regional security outfit (WNSC), codenamed Amotekun, in Oyo state has arrested four suspected kidnappers on Thursday along Iseyin-Oyo road. The suspected kidnappers who were arrested at a farm at Odo-Ogun were identified as Adam Musa (18 years old) from Kogi State, Babuga Ali (19 years old) from Sokoto State, Abdullahi Sheu (18) from Niger State and Umar Mesan (17 years old) from Kano State. The four men were apprehended while attempting to kidnap another farmer at Odo-‘Mighty Ogun’s Farm,’ where they were found with a variety of weaponry including locally made firearms and ammo, machetes, knives, and other hazardous weapons. The offenders told Amotekun operatives that they were responsible for two successful kidnappings in which they received N6.4 million and N1.2 million from the two victims.   We’ll cooperate with executive for accelerated devt — Oyo deputy speaker …says Assembly not rubber stamp The Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Muhammed Fadeyi, has said the current legislative arm in the state is not a rubber stamp, debunking the allegation that the lawmakers are under the thumb of Governor ‘Seyi Makinde.  Some were of the opinion that the current legislative arm in the state seem to be only doing the will of Governor  Makinde and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP rather than working for masses in the state.  Fadeyi, who spoke with newsmen, said that it is not true that the assembly is a rubber stamp of the executive arm of government which readily passes bills to suit the governor.
