Budget presentation: Senator Akintunde Commends President Tinubu on 2026 Budget, Reassures Nigerians of Shared Prosperity
Senator Yunus Akintunde, the Distinguished Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, on Friday joined other members of the National Assembly to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill at the National Assembly, Abuja.
The appropriation bills containing the 2026 fiscal year budget presentation took place at a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives, presided over by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas. President Tinubu was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the Federal Executive Council, serving governors, and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Presenting the 2026, N58.18tr Budget in the Appropriation bills, tagged “Budget of Consolidation, Sustained Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” President Tinubu further assured Nigerians of his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the budget delivers measurable and positive impact on the nation’s economy. He emphasized priority attention to national security, education and human capacity development, infrastructure expansion, agriculture, and value-chain development, among other critical sectors.
Reacting to the presentation, Senator Akintunde expressed optimism and confidence in the President’s economic direction, noting that recent developments validate his earlier projections on the administration’s reform agenda. He reaffirmed his belief in President Tinubu’s commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s economy through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Senator also echoed President Tinubu’s commendation of Nigerians for their resilience and endurance amid the temporary pains of ongoing economic reforms. According to him, the gains of these reforms are already becoming evident and will be sustained, as clearly reflected in the policy thrust and projections of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.
Senator Akintunde assured Nigerians that the National Assembly would diligently and expeditiously examine the Appropriation Bill to ensure seamless implementation in the 2026 fiscal year.
“A cursory assessment of the President’s address provides clear insight into the administration’s determination to strengthen critical sectors capable of driving economic growth and delivering the promised consolidation, sustained resilience, and, most importantly, shared prosperity,” he stated.
He further urged Nigerians to maintain faith in the President’s leadership, stressing that the nation has turned a decisive corner and that the prospects of a more prosperous future are assured.
“Things will only continue to get better in the years ahead. We must remain optimistic and eschew pessimism if we are to fully enjoy the dividends of shared prosperity,” Senator Akintunde concluded.
