Governor Seyi Makinde has announced a transportation support fund of N10,000 monthly to civil servants across Oyo State. The intervention, which takes effect from March 2026, is scheduled for an initial three-month period to mitigate the impact of rising transportation costs. The Governor made the announcement on Monday during a supervision visit to the Fashola Agribusiness Hub for the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme. The initiative is being executed in partnership with First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Mastercard.
According to Governor Makinde, the fund is a strategic component of the state’s broader response to current economic challenges. By addressing the surge in transportation costs, the administration aims to protect workers' welfare and maintain high productivity levels across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing. We understand that transportation costs have gone up significantly, and as a government, we must act to ease that burden.” Governor Makinde expressed.
The transportation fund is the latest addition to the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery (SAfER) framework.
The event also saw the disbursement of funds to YEAP beneficiaries, further reinforcing the government's commitment to livelihood sustainability. Stakeholders present at the engagement lauded the Governor for the timely intervention, noting that the N10,000 stipend offers immediate, tangible relief for the workers in the state.
The Oyo State Government will communicate the specific modalities for the disbursement of the transportation fund through official civil service channels in the coming days.
