Oyo Rep Member Alleged Of Assaulted Party Chieftain in Violent Clash As Ghost of ‘Sugar’ Killing Resurfaces
Fresh political turmoil has erupted in Lagelu Local Government of Oyo State, following an alleged violent confrontation between a serving member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye Akinmoyede, and a party chieftain, Hon. Gafar Oyebade.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Monday at the APC State Secretariat in Oke Ado, Ibadan, has left Oyebade hospitalised with injuries he claims were inflicted during an assault by the federal lawmaker and his loyalists.
According to Oyebade, he had honoured an invitation from the APC State Secretary, Hon. Fatai Adesina, aimed at resolving lingering disputes stemming from the recently conducted local government congress in Lagelu.
What was expected to be a peace meeting, however, allegedly spiralled into chaos.
“Save my soul,” Oyebade cried out in a statement made available to journalists, alleging that he was beaten, harassed, and threatened with death during the heated engagement.
He further disclosed that the matter has been formally reported at the Iyaganku State CID, where investigations are expected to commence.
But in a swift rebuttal, Hon. Akinmoyede, through his Legislative Aide, Dr. Isiaq Akintunde, dismissed the allegations as false, insisting that no form of physical assault took place during the meeting convened by the party leadership.
The lawmaker maintained that the gathering was strictly to address internal disputes regarding party roles in Lagelu and ended without violence.
Yet, beyond the immediate clash, the development has stirred unsettling memories within Lagelu’s political space.
Observers are drawing parallels to the controversial death of Hon. Temitope “Sugar”, a prominent political figure whose killing remains a dark chapter in the area’s history. At the time, Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye was reportedly alleged and briefly detained in connection with the incident, though no conviction followed.
The resurfacing of such history has heightened anxiety among party faithful and residents, many of whom fear a dangerous pattern of political hostility re-emerging as the electoral cycle approaches.
With accusations and counter-accusations flying, pressure is mounting on security agencies and party leadership to act swiftly, ensure accountability, and prevent further escalation.
Lagelu stands at a critical crossroads once again.
Will this be another chapter of unresolved political violence, or a turning point for discipline and order within party ranks?
