JUST-IN: Makinde Formally Declares Presidential Bid; Shifts Allegiance to Allied Peoples Movement (APM)



Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 Presidential Election under new political party. In a move that has sent ripples through the political landscape, Governor Makinde has confirmed to run under the banner of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in 2027 general election.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters at a mega alliance rally organised at ancient Mapo hall in Ibadan on Thursday 14th May, 2026, Governor Makinde framed his candidacy as a Rescue Mission for a nation at a crossroads. He cited the need for a technocratic, people-centered approach to governance that transcends traditional partisan roadblocks.

During his keynote address, Governor Makinde outlined a vision anchored on economic liberalization, infrastructure modernization, and a robust security overhaul.
"My decision to join the APM is a strategic move to align with a platform that prioritizes grassroots progress over political patronage. We have shown in Oyo State that engineering modern governance is possible. Now, we intend to scale that 'Omituntun' philosophy to every corner of Nigeria. Makinde stated.

The shift to the Allied Peoples Movement marks a significant realignment in Nigerian politics.Insiders suggest that the APM provides Makinde with the ideological flexibility required. to build a broad-based coalition of youth, professionals, and the working class.

Accoding to insider, the Makinde Presidential Campaign Organization will commence a nationwide listening tour soon, beginning in the NorthCentral geopolitical zone. The tour aims to engage stakeholders, traditional rulers, and civic groups to refine the campaign’s policy roadmap.
