Subsidy Removal:  Oyo Govt Flags off SAFER-Palliatives for poorest households In Ibadan Less City

It is no more a news that Oyo State governor as approved the Flag-off for the distribution of Safer palliatives to Oyo Citizens to ease the effect of fuel subsidy removal by the federal government. 
Following Governor Seyi Makinde’s approval of the sum of Eight billion, Six hundred and thirty-three million, nine hundred and ninety-six thousand, four hundred and sixty four naira (N8, 633, 996, 464. 00) for the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) committee in the State, the Oyo state government flagged of distribution of food palliatives among other things in Ibadan less city today Wednesday 30th August, 2023.


During the symbolic presentation at the frontage of Egbeda local government hall at old-SDP building wema off new Ife road Ibadan,  Governor Makinde, who was represented by the deputy speaker oyo state assembly, Honourable Mohammed Abiodun Fadeyi. 

Fadeyi in his opening remarks said that food palliative distribution was aimed at ease the effect of subsidy removal on the well-being of people of oyo state.  He said this is not the first time the government will rises to the needs of people especially when the need becomes necessary to their wellbeing.  Fadeyi explained that if we recall, palliatives was distributed during Covid-19 pandemic in 2019 in the state which reduce the effect of economic meant down on people’s wellbeing and businesses.

According to Oyo deputy speaker, the government’s intervention to cushion the effect give positive result in 2019 and we are committed to ensuring we have better results as well this time. Fadeyi also expressed his pleasure on the readiness of the government to rise again to the needs of common people. He pointed out that the Makinde-led administration in Oyo state is being magnanimous in addressing the current problem of the country and ensuring quick growth in the state through adequate utilisation of the state allocation in order to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.

Fadeyi said the flagged off is being done simultaneously across six zones in the pacesetter state, and targeted 200,000 poorest of the poor households to benefit from the palliatives. 

“On behalf of His Excellency, the Oyo Seyi state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, the palliatives would be distributed across wards and units within all local governments that formed Ibadan less city zone by Friday. Fadeyi explained.





The deputy speaker, also stated that the recovery initiative is also for farmers, civil servants as well as the transporters to be assist to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal, however commended the federal government for taking the boldly step in removing the subsidy so that large chucks of people in the country can be benefited which His Excellency, Seyi Makinde is also doing.

Fadeyi appreciates the presence of royal fathers, religious leaders, traditional leaders and local government chairmen, Lawmakers among others to witness the flag off of this palliatives distribution. He said the palliatives would be widely distributed to the poorest of the poor households by Friday.




Fadeyi tasked the residents of Oyo state not to hesitate to reach out to the state government whenever they suspect partiality in the distribution, emphasizing that the palliative is strictly for the poorest of the poor households.
Earlier in his welcome address, Egbeda local government chairman, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele commended Governor Seyi Makinde ably represented by the deputy speaker, Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi for the recovery initiative to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.

Sanda said, the government would make use of the world bank record that was used in 2019 during Covid-19 pandemic so that the palliatives can reach the targeted people. He said the government will target the genuine poorest of the poor households during the distribution. He emphasised that the palliative contained 10kg of rice, vegetable oil, yam flour, gari, beans among other food items which will be distributed to vulnerable households in Akinyele, Egbeda, Lagelu, Ido, Oluyole and Ona-Ara respectively without any political interference.


At the event were Hon Taiwo Oke, Hon Kazeem Gbadamosi (Lagelu local govt chairman), (Hon Sherif Adeojo (chairman Ido local govt), Hon musibau Sanusi (chairman Ona Ara local govt), Hon kunle Balogun(Ona Ara LG deputy chairman), Hon Olaide popoola (Oluyole Local govt chairman), Hon Funso kayode Peter (Akinyele local govt acting chairman) Hon Benedict Akika, Deputy majority leader, Hon Olasunkanmi Samson Babalola, Royal fathers, religious leaders, party chieftains and members; as well as residents of ibadan less city zone among others.
