In the labyrinthine corridors of Oyo State's political landscape, a profound enigma has emerged, leaving aficionados and pundits bewildered.
The erstwhile former Senate Leader of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State during 2023 general election, Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin, has been inexplicably relegated to the periphery, despite his unwavering dedication and instrumental role in the party's ascendancy in 2023 general election.
Folarin's unshakeable loyalty to the party and its leaders has been a hallmark of his political career. His steadfast commitment to the late Governor Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, both during his lifetime and after his demise, has been a testament to his unwavering dedication. Furthermore, his unrelenting support for former Governor, late Adebayo Alao Akala has left an indelible mark on the political psyche of Ogbomoso, with the people still recalling his pivotal role in actualizing Olamiju Akala's aspirations.
The 2023 general elections witnessed Folarin's impressive campaign strategy, which saw him traverse every nook and cranny of Oyo State, leaving no stone unturned in his quest for the governorship seat and party triumph in all ramifications. However, despite his Herculean efforts, Folarin's endeavours have been met with a deafening silence, leaving many to wonder about the underlying reasons for this apparent snub.
Rumours have been rife about President Tinubu's purported displeasure with Folarin's perceived lack of support during the primary elections. Nevertheless, it is essential to note that Oyo State delegates unanimously voted for Asiwaju during the primary elections, raising pertinent questions about who actually delivered this victory. Was it Folarin's strategic manoeuvring or the delegates' independent decision-making?
The APC's inexplicable failure to recognize Folarin's monumental contributions has spawned a plethora of speculation about his alleged offenses. Some attribute his misfortune to his refusal to relinquish assembly tickets, while others point to his perceived disloyalty during the APC presidential primary election. However, the truth, much like Folarin's future, remains shrouded in uncertainty.
Folarin's predicament has not gone unnoticed, with many wondering why some progressive leaders in the state, despite their lack of commitments to the party's victory, have received more recognition than FOLARIN, the party's cornerstone. The fact that those who demonstrate genuine loyalty to Folarin are overlooked in the Tinubu-led administration has led to a mass exodus of party faithful from Folarin's political dynasty, seeking greener pastures and recognition elsewhere.
As the people of Oyo State continue to ponder Folarin's fate, one question remains: Who will rescue him from the unknown enemies within the APC's federal hierarchy? Will it be the party's national leadership, or will Folarin be forced to navigate the treacherous waters of Oyo State politics alone? The answer, much like Folarin's future, remains uncertain, leaving many to wonder about the veracity of the APC's mantra of "progressive politics" and its commitment to rewarding loyalty and dedication.
