The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan, the state capital, on Monday, September 8, 2025, to express its vehement opposition to the N300 billion loan request by Governor Seyi Makinde. The party also alleged intimidation of its member, Hon. Ibraheem Shittu, who represents Saki West State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The APC's protest was sparked by the state government's request for a N300 billion loan, which the party believes will further plunge the state into financial crisis. According to the APC, this loan would be the third obtained by the Makinde administration in eight months, following N200 billion in March and N110 billion from the French Treasury in July, bringing the total borrowings in 2025 to N610 billion. The APC alleged that Hon. Shittu, who faulted the loan request, has been receiving threat messages and intimidation from unknown sources. The party claimed that the lawmaker was not informed about the meeting to approve the loan and that the approval was done secretly.

The protest, which began at the APC state Secretariat, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, was led by the state party Chairman, Alhaji Olajide Abas. The protesters marched through major streets in Ibadan, terminating at Mokola roundabout. During the protest, Abas warned the PDP administration against mortgaging the lives of Oyo State citizens with a rising debt profile.

The APC demanded that Governor Makinde account for previous loans before seeking new ones. The party also urged the state government to prioritize financial prudence, transparency, and policies that directly benefit the public rather than piling up loans that could mortgage the future of Oyo State.

The party's demands for transparency and accountability in governance are aimed at ensuring that the state's resources are utilized for the benefit of its citizens.
