In a major move to bolster grassroots entrepreneurship, Hon. Akin Alabi, representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, officially flagged off his ₦500 Million Micro Business Support Initiative today at the Esho Events Center, Old Ife Road, Ibadan.
The landmark initiative is designed to provide direct financial grants to 5,000 micro-business owners, with each recipient receiving ₦100,000.00 to scale their operations and navigate current economic challenges.
During the January edition held today, a total of ₦50,000,000.00 was disbursed to the first batch of 500 beneficiaries. This monthly exercise will continue until the full ₦500 million target is reached, ensuring a steady injection of capital into the local economy.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Akin Alabi emphasized that this financial intervention is a strategic pillar of his representation, designed to work in tandem with his ongoing infrastructural projects.
"This empowerment program is about more than just a grant, it is an investment in the hardworking individuals who drive our local economy. By supporting 5,000 micro-businesses, we are strengthening the backbone of Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency and ensuring that our constituents have the resources to thrive alongside our infrastructural ." Akin Alabi stated.
The flag-off ceremony was well-attended by prominent leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling strong party support for the initiative. Key attendees included:Hon. Joshua Oyebamiji, PhD, Chairman, APC Oyo Central Senatorial District, Hon. Olawale Sadare, State Public Relations Officer, APC Oyo State, Hon. Olawale Olaleye and Prince Kolawole Ogundipe, APC Chairmen for Egbeda and Ona-Ara LGAs, respectively. Others include Hon. Bola Fawole, former Majority Leader, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ismaila Akanni Ere, former Executive Chairman, Ona-Ara Local Government, Alhaji Sule Suara Elegbeda and Alhaji Yinka Folarin, notable party leaders.
Other distinguished figures present included Hon. Ibrahim Bolomope and Hon. Biliaminu Ogundele, alongside various community leaders from across the Federal Constituency.
The Micro Business Support Initiative marks a significant milestone in Hon. Akin Alabi’s commitment to poverty alleviation and economic self-sufficiency. By providing non-refundable grants rather than loans, the program removes the burden of debt from small-scale traders, artisans, and entrepreneurs, allowing them to reinvest fully in their growth.
The next phase of the disbursement is scheduled for February, continuing the mission to reach all 5,000 intended beneficiaries.
