JUST-IN: FG Flags Off Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road Dualization Project as Akin Alabi Assures Tinubu of Over 1M Votes in Oyo State
The Federal Government has officially flagged off the reconstruction and dualization of the strategic Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road, spanning Oyo and Ogun States. The mega-infrastructure project, designated as Contract No. 9287, is valued at N295,996,609,992.77 and is executed by Messrs. JRB Construction Company Limited.
The extensive project covers a length of 56.5km by 2 (Dual Carriageway) with a total project width of 12.8 meters, comprising a 7.3-meter carriageway and 2.75-meter shoulders on each side. Awarded on 5th May 2026 with a commencement date of 11th June 2026, the project is scheduled for completion within 36 months, targeting a delivery date of 10th June 2029. The project Involves site clearance, earthworks, excavation of unsuitable materials, scarification, and pulverization of the existing bituminous surface. Construction features a 200mm lateritic sub-base, a 200mm (3.5%) cement-stabilized base course, and Grade 40 of 200mm CRCP on the carriageway and shoulders. Construction of new bridges alongside existing two-span and three-span bridges, complemented by hydraulic structures such as lined drains, pipe/box culverts, and stone pitching. The dualized corridor will be fully fitted with solar-powered streetlights, concrete kerbs, lane markings, and kilometre posts.
Addressing the current fair-to-deplorable condition of large sections of the corridor, the government noted that the contractor will execute intensive stabilization works on critically failed portions. This intervention is designed to eliminate perennial pavement failures, remove unsuitable soils, and match high engineering strength and performance standards.
Speaking in tandem with the developmental milestone during the official flaggedoff of the road, the Chairman House Committee on Works, Honourable Akin Alabi appreciate and assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of massive electoral support from Oyo State. Hon. Akin Alabi expressed confidence that visible infrastructure delivery, such as the vital Ibadan-Ijebu Ode dualization, will solidify constituents' backing, cementing a projection of over one million votes for the President Tinubu in Oyo State.
The dualization is expected to significantly boost inter-state commerce, reduce travel time, and ease transportation bottlenecks between Oyo and Ogun States upon completion.
